Wakakirri Award Winners!
Coniston Public School, for the first time, participated in Wakakirri (an Australia-wide competition) featuring primary, secondary and dance schools. Stage 3 entered the primary challenge and through some very tough competition received the public speaking award and a Regional Indigenous award. At the beginning of term 4 2019, Coniston received notice that the National Awards were being publicly announced on the Wakakirri website. On that day, stage 3 teacher, Ms Wira shared the news with the classes by presenting the award video. They had been given the National Reconciliation Award. Both teachers (Ms Wira and Mrs Judd) were extremely proud of the dancers and backstage crew. In the week 6, term 3 assembly, the performers re-enacted the dance in front of the students and staff of the school, showing them the greatly choreographed dance. On the 24th of October 2019, the stage 3 classes reprised the performance a second time, for the Grandparents Day assembly.
