'Film by' initiative provides an opportunity for the development of students filmmaking skills whilst integrating visual literacy and digital technologies, ticking all curriculum boxes. The films are presented are premiere events throughout Metropolitan Sydney and regional areas. The Film by organisation doesn’t just include Film by the Coast but actually has a large range of other festivals where “Film By the Sea” was the catalyst. Some of these include Film by the Sea, Eucalypts and Banks. In term 3 of 2019, Coniston Public School’s stage 3 classes will partake in the Film by the Coast Festival. Last year, Ms Wira’s year 3 class took part in the same event and their film was titled “Teacher's Having a Bad Day”. This was the first run through of this occasion which now continues annually. Stage 3 have integrated their literacy and science unit of Earth and Space into their films by choosing planets and using that as their film's base. The students separated into groups and began researching the chosen planet. They did these projects during their literacy groups. The films are due on the 6th of September and will be submitted to the Film by the Coast committee for review of submission. The winners, previously, received an award for placing so highly. They were offered a free lessons and film making classes at a prestigious film school, south of Sydney. This year, like last year, the Film By The Coast festival will be premiered at Anita's Theatre in Thirroul for matinee and evening performances.
